To celebrate the launch of its innovative new glass product Laminis, Fabbian was inspired to photograph it within the subterranean stone quarry of Cava Acque in the Berici Hills near Grancona, in the province of Vicenza. This wasn’t some capricious idea. The legendary quarry is traditionally favoured by contemporary architects from Frank Gehry to Ricardo Bofill, and since Laminis was conceived for use in architectural projects, this setting felt entirely appropriate. Berlin-based designers Formfjord use 32 thin steel rings in ‘Giro’, a lamp for Fabbian Illuminazione that encloses a large volume “but leaves it open and airy”.

'Roofer' pendant lamp by Benjamin Hubert for Fabbian (IT)

Usually it involves a good few years of apprenticeship before you can start playing around with roof styles. Luckily, British designer Benjamin Hubert has scaled things a touch with this new ‘Roofer’ pendant lamp for Italian manufacturer Fabbian.

Benjamin Hubert's new 'Paddle' task light for Italian manufacturer Fabbian

There’s no excuse to be up that proverbial creek without one. Strongly referencing not only the form of a canoe blade but also its 360-degree movement through water, young British designer Benjamin Hubert’s new ‘Paddle’ LED task lamp for Italian manufacturer Fabbian will be launched at Euroluce during next month’s Milan Salone del Mobile 2011.
