‘Grasshopper’ floor lamp by Greta Grossman reissued by Gubi

Danish furniture and lighting manufacturer Gubi has reissued this famous modernist ‘Grasshopper’ floor lamp designed in 1947 by the Swedish-born architect and designer Greta Grossman. The slender, elegantly curved steel-and-aluminium lamp maintains most of its original features and has been re-relased in five muted shades such as anthracite grey, warm grey, blue-grey, jet black and vintage red. Eileen Gray's iconic hand-lacquered 'Brick Screen' has been reproduced by ClassiCon

As part of the ‘Classic’ series, German manufacturer ClassiCon has launched a a re-edition of the iconic ‘Brick Screen’ designed between 1922 and 1925 by the renowned Irish designer Eileen Gray.


'Pirkka' stools by Imari Tapiovaara, now in production by Artek

On the occasion of Artek’s 75th anniversary the Finnish manufacturer, founded in 1935 by Alvar Aalto extended their collection with another range of Finnish classics – those by Ilmari Tapiovaara, a great admirer of Alvar Aalto. Artek has acquired the entire share capital of Aero Design Furniture, the company which produced the Tapiovaara pieces until now.

Another year over. But don’t get all misty-eyed. Apply that retrospection to some engaging design instead. Two exhibitions currently running, one at Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the other at the offices of MariniPandolfi/Comet in Florence, look back at the rapid expansion in design production and consumption in post-war France and the lighting designs of Italian design hero Vico Magistretti respectively.
