Anna Nakamura and Tajyo Jinno of the Japanese practice EASTERN Design Office have realised this elevated, single-storey building located in Gojo, Kyoto Prefecture. Designed to accommodate a local craftsman, the MON Factory/House features a perforated, overlapping façade and encompasses both work and living spaces, two courtyards as well as a small shop situated at the front of the house. Hailed as ‘the largest urban intervention of the last decades made on Pozuelo de Alarcón municipality, Madrid province’ and covering a total area of 20.000-square-meters, this imposing concrete cultural centre and the adjacent ‘network of pedestrian spaces’ has been recently completed by the Spanish practice specialising in architecture and urban planning Fündc. The Hiroshima-based award-winning practice Kazunori Fujimoto Architect & Associates has recently completed this minimalist three-storey family house located in the Rapponmatsu area of the Japanese city of Fukuoka. Striking in its austere simplicity, the L-shaped form of the building has been determined by the long-and-narrow, rectangular shape of the site. (more…)

The Parisian practice LAN – Local Architecture Network – has recently completed this archive centre for the French energy giant EDF. Located in Bure-Saudron, the five-storey 7,000-square-meter
building blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape thanks to its simple form and the earth-coloured concrete façade encompassing some 120,000 stainless steel studs. Apart from the archives, the centre also comprises a number of airy offices which ‘have an ideal view on the surrounding landscape.’ (more…)

L40, the monolithic, geometrical building on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin-Mitte is a collaborative project designed by Bundschuh Architekten and Cosima von Bonin. This sombre, striking and instantly-recognisable structure was commissioned by Verein zur Förderung der Kunst und Kultur am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz e.V. and the building was competed in January 2010. Orto is a floor and wall covering system with a network of splits on its surface to plant moss
ORTO is a decorative concrete with moss and provides an alternative solution for common planting. The plants can be set into the furrows of the elements thus forming a breathing green surface along the ornamentation.
