Sanjo-cho is a densely-built old residential area in Takamatsu City, Kagawa. Our project was to make a “meeting place” for local residents to get together. The site within the built-up town is surrounded by a number of alleys. What we tried to do was to create the center in the town, relevant to these alleys and houses. (text by Yasunari Tsukada design)

Villa Pu is a new youth and community centre realised by the award-winning Rotterdam-based practice Atelier Kempe Thill. Located in the Osdorp area of Amsterdam, the small-yet-striking, minimalist building consists of two instantly-distinguishable antipodal space concepts: a translucent fully-glazed ground floor used as a ‘public living room ‘, and a monolithic cubic community hall located in the upper part of the building. ARCH+ features 3 with raumlabor berlin
For the fourth time the German manufacturer for building communication technology SIEDLE supports the architectural symposia organised by the Berlin based architecture magazine ARCH +. After lectures and panel discussions with BARarchitekten, Diébédo Francis Kéréo and raumlaborberlin this time the Institute for Applied Urbanism (ifau), Jesko Fezer, co-operator of the architectural bookstore ‘pro qm’ and editor of the magazine An Architektur, and the Berlin based practice Heide & von Beckerath will be discussing about participatory community building – a praxis which became very popular in the reunited Berlin – and urban policy issues. The panel discussion will take place April 1st at 7:30 pm at .HBC, Karl-Liebknecht-Srasse 9, Berlin.
