‘Tria’ chair by Catharina Lorenz and Steffen Kaz for Colé

The young Italian furniture brand Colé has teamed up with two German-born Milan-based designers Catharina Lorenz and Steffen Kaz, founders of Lorenz*Kaz studio, to create this three-legged, plywood chair called ‘Tria.’ Made of curved plywood and available in either natural oak, stained black oak finish or veneer, the form of the chair was inspired by the complexity of works of M. C. Escher which frequently featured impossible and infinite constructions and tessellations. (more…)

‘Roebuck’ chair by Ernest Race reissued by Race Furniture

Originally designed by Ernest Race in 1951, ‘Roebuck’ chair was first created as an inexpensive alternative to the iconic, steel rod ‘Antelope’ chair designed by Race in the same year for the first edition of Festival of Britain. Now, the design, which was in production since its launch till 1968, has been reissued by the UK-based Race Furniture and it was recently presented at London’s Design Junction. (more…)

‘Röhsska’ chair by Claesson Koivisto Rune for Swedese

Described by its designers as ‘the chair [we’ve designed, so far] that has given us the greatest satisfaction’, ‘Röhsska’ was unveiled earlier last week in Gothenburg as the latest collaborative project between the renowned design studio Claesson Koivisto Rune, manufacturer Swedese and the Röhsska Museum of Design and Decorative Arts. Made entirely out of wood and manufactured in Sweden, the chair will be officially launched to the international public next week during London Design Festival 2012. (more…)

‘Soba’ chair by Dunja Weber for PCM

Swiss-born Milan-based designer Dunja Weber has created this stackable armchair for the recently-founded Spanish label PCM. The first chair to be released by PCM, ‘Soba’ is a reinterpretation of the classic string chair. The design is composed of a powder-coated steel frame and PVC string and it was launched earlier in April during Salone del Mobile fair. (more…)

‘Pelleossa’ chair by Francesco Faccin for Miniforms; photo by Andrea Basile

Milanese industrial designer Francesco Faccin has recently realised this light, leather-and-wood chair for the Italian furniture brand Miniforms. Called ‘Pelleossa’ – Italian for ‘skin and bones’, the chair has been designed to resemble polished bones: ‘I really like bones because they are the result of a natural reduction process … and then they are a metaphor for the essential of a structure, are fairly minimal’ comments the designer. ‘Link’ chair by Markus Krauss

Three tubular steel parts are jointed at only one point to form this somewhat unusual, pared-down chair. Realised by a Hamburg-based designer Markus Krauss, ‘Link’ was presented earlier in April at Salone del Mobile’s Salone Satellite in two colourways: a toned-down, white-and-pastel blue model and an opalescent gold version. ‘Luc’ chair by Lorenz*Kaz for Rossin

Lorenz*Kaz, a design studio led by a duo of German-born Milan-based designers Catharina Lorenz and Steffen Kaz have realised this minimalist, softly curved chair for the Italian furniture manufacturer Rossin. Composed of a polyurethane shell which is supported by either four simple wooden legs or a thin metal base, the generously-proportioned ‘Luc’ is available in multiple colourways. (more…)

‘Nordica’ chair by Marco Ferreri for Billiani

An Italian, family-run furniture brand Billiani has recently released this simple, solid wood chair designed by architect and designer Marco Ferreri. A modern, pared-down reinterpretation of the classic tub chair, ‘Nordica’ features curved, semi-circle backrest whose fluid form is juxtaposed with the straight lines of its seat and base. The design has been developed in beech wood and is available in variety of finishes and with an optional upholstery. (more…)
