‘Pelleossa’ chair by Francesco Faccin for Miniforms; photo by Andrea Basile

Milanese industrial designer Francesco Faccin has recently realised this light, leather-and-wood chair for the Italian furniture brand Miniforms. Called ‘Pelleossa’ – Italian for ‘skin and bones’, the chair has been designed to resemble polished bones: ‘I really like bones because they are the result of a natural reduction process … and then they are a metaphor for the essential of a structure, are fairly minimal’ comments the designer. ‘Link’ chair by Markus Krauss

Three tubular steel parts are jointed at only one point to form this somewhat unusual, pared-down chair. Realised by a Hamburg-based designer Markus Krauss, ’Link’ was presented earlier in April at Salone del Mobile’s Salone Satellite in two colourways: a toned-down, white-and-pastel blue model and an opalescent gold version. ‘Luc’ chair by Lorenz*Kaz for Rossin

Lorenz*Kaz, a design studio led by a duo of German-born Milan-based designers Catharina Lorenz and Steffen Kaz have realised this minimalist, softly curved chair for the Italian furniture manufacturer Rossin. Composed of a polyurethane shell which is supported by either four simple wooden legs or a thin metal base, the generously-proportioned ‘Luc’ is available in multiple colourways. (more…)

‘Nordica’ chair by Marco Ferreri for Billiani

An Italian, family-run furniture brand Billiani has recently released this simple, solid wood chair designed by architect and designer Marco Ferreri. A modern, pared-down reinterpretation of the classic tub chair, ‘Nordica’ features curved, semi-circle backrest whose fluid form is juxtaposed with the straight lines of its seat and base. The design has been developed in beech wood and is available in variety of finishes and with an optional upholstery. (more…)

‘minuscule’ chair by Cecilie Manz for Republic of Fritz Hansen

The award-winning Danish furniture designer Cecilie Manz has developed this understated, upholstered chair for Republic of Fritz Hansen. Described by Manz as a ‘formal chair for informal meetings’, ‘minuscule’ features a hand-stitched, leather-trimmed shell which is supported by a simple and lightweight plastic frame. Inspired by the form of human body while in comfortable, seated cross-legged position, the multidisciplinary design practice Atelier Oï has recently realised this curious collection of foldable outdoor furniture for the Swiss brand Atelier Pfister. Comprising a chair, a lounge chair as well as three, variously sized table designs, ‘Nods’ has been developed in the weather-resistant solid teak wood. (more…)
