'c1' rug from the 'Room moment' collection by detailF
Franziska Wernicke, a Rotterdam-based textile designer and founder of detailF design studio has realised this subdued, four-piece collection of New Zealand wool rugs called ‘room moment’. Comprising one rectangular and three circular versions, the series features a distinctive three-colour gradation which is accentuated by a delicate radial pattern emanating from an offset point. A complex, high-tech tufting technique has been used in the production of the series and the ‘c3′ model of the rug was exhibited and nominated for the ‘interior innovation award 2012′ at the imm cologne’s [D³] Contest. 'Dag&Natt' carpet by Petra Lundblad-Fridén for Kasthall
Earlier this year, designer Petra Lundblad-Fridén has created this series of hauntingly beautiful, inkblot-like printed carpets for the Swedish rug manufacturer Kasthall. Called ‘Dag & Natt’ – Swedish for ‘Day & Night’ – the dreamlike collection stems from Lundblad-Fridén’s ‘passion for experimenting with different images and colours, and using layers to create new expression’ and encompasses four different designs inspired by the weather and sky phenomena: Haze, Thunder, Summer Dawn and Autumn Dusk. This year’s Greenhouse – the young designer’s exhibition during the Stockholm Furniture Fair – had again a lot to offer. One of the most beautiful exhibitions was the shared booth of the German designers from halloessen and the Gothenburg based designer trio Kontor Kontur – an artful interplay of graphical decoration, delicate textile design and sophisticated furniture and accessories.
Bed linen by Scholten & Baijings with the designer's typical pattern for HAY

'Losanges' by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Nanimarquina
At this year’s Maison&Objet from 21 – 25 January the Spanish carpet manufacturer Nanimarquina will present the new design by the Paris based designer brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. Based on the traditional kilim-technique, carried through by the craftsmen of Northern Pakistan, they created this vivid, geometrical, rhombus shaped pattern. Completely manufactured by hand – even the Afghan wool is spun by hand – each lozenge is slightly different and each rug, a unique piece.
These patchwork carpets by the Belgian manufacturer Limited Edition are composed of recovered remnants of traditional, antique Turkish rugs that are treated, dyed and woven together – a beautiful example of smart and stylish re-use.
'Pliages' by Daniel Hechter for Toulemonde Bochart
This hand tufted wool relief designed by Daniel Hechter is part of the newest carpet collection of the French manufacturer Toulemonde Bachart. The crystalline surface is composed of different shades of gray which slightly change depending on the light incidence.
The Spanish carpet manufacturer nanimarquina just presented this beautiful video which describes in impressive images the production and the artisanry of their skilled workers in India.
On the basis of this premise, in 1994 several companies that imported carpets from India, Nepal and Pakistan founded the Care & Fair organisation. Its principal objective: to eradicate child labour from the carpet manufacturing industry in these areas.
nanimarquina has been a member of Care & Fair since the outset and can therefore guarantee that no child labour has been used in the production of their rugs.
nanimarquina will exhibit at this year’s Design Biennale INTERIEUR 2010 in Kortrijk.
