Konstantin Grcic’s ‘Bench B’ is a modular seating system that’s like a one-seater side chair that can expand, all but extruded, to a long bench of up to six meters. Bench B is part of BD Barcelona’s Extrusions collection. It can be used indoors or outdoors, it can have arms or not, and it can be upholstered or left with a pure aluminium finish.

B Chair by Konstantin Grcic

This folding chair designed by Konstatin Grcic is presented at this year`s Salone del Mobile by the Spanish manufacturer Bd Barcelona. It is an addition to the last year presented B Table, a multi purpose table with an extruded aluminium table top. The legs are X-shaped and the seat folds, which allows for horizontal stacking and pays tribute to the name of the collection.

Bd Barcelona, the Spanish company which was founded in 1972 by the well-known architect Oscar Tusquets, presented a range of new tables at this year´s Salone del Mobile designed by Konstantin Grcic. The collaboration seemed to be a real hit and the results are remarkable. Once more Bd Barcelona was able to underline its special production abilities when it comes to extruded aluminium profiles.

Grcic has been inspired by classic Bd pieces, such as the Hypóstila shelf unit (in production since 1979), in developing a tabletop of extruded aluminium with a minimal profile and for lengths of up to 360 cm. The table board can be mounted on a stone, metal or wooden base. A nice and for the designer typical detail is the open profile on the short side of the table board, which can be closed if required, though.
