3gatti, the Shanghai-based practice established in 2002 by an Italian architect Francesco Gatti has realised this cavern-like monochrome interior of a music bar located in the same eastern Chinese city. Reminiscent of an op-art painting, the design of Zebar was inspired by 3D modelling and encompasses

sequential parallel black-and-white plasterboard slices which have been meticulously cut by hand. (more…)

The London based architectural practice SHH realised, in cooperation with furniture designer Stefan Bench, lighting designers .PSLAB and garden designer Kate Gould, two new restaurant spaces within Europe’s largest multi-arts and conference venue, the Barbican Centre in London.

Judged by a panel of high-profile editors from the design, lifestyle and hospitality sectors, the UK Restaurant & Bar Design Awards 09/10 has announced its shortlist.

Now in its second year, the awards scheme is the only one of its kind to recognise this particular type of design project. This year’s shortlist includes submissions from Matteo Thun, Nigel Coates and Conran & Partners. The awards ceremony will take place on 22 June at a venue overlooking London’s new 2012 Olympic Park.
