A Vienna-based architect Judith Benzer has recently completed this wood-clad summerhouse located in the easternmost Austrian Land of Burgenland. Formally echoing the archetypal gabled house, the design of the detached, two-storey structure stems from that of the Kellerstöckel (wine house) typical to the Southern Burgenland region. (more…)

On the occasion of this year’s edition of Vienna Design Week which took place earlier in autumn (28.09 – 07.10.2012), Eindhoven-based design duo Daphna Laurens have been commissioned by the Austrian upholstered furniture specialist Wittmann Company to ‘exchange design ideas and produce a tangible outcome, be it a product or installation.’ Following this brief, the studio have realised this striking and decidedly tangible, two-piece seating collection which was presented at the Passionwege exhibition. Vienna-based architectural practice Architects Collective have recently completed this detached 300-square-meters residence whose L-shaped structure was inspired by the traditional architecture of the Austria’s Burgenland region. Featuring a striking, slanted roof and boasting panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, the two-storey L House has been developed to ‘merge the needs of it’s residents with the environment’ and features a number of energy-efficient solutions such as triple panel glassing. Developed to reflect the local landscape and architecture, this striking 530-square-meters detached villa was realised by a Hamburg-based practice, splendid architecture. A young Polish-born Vienna-based designer Patrycja Domanska has recently created this simple metal pendant lamp whose colour changes once the design heats up. Made of spun aluminium, ‘Holo’ is coated with a special thermochromic paint which fades from vivid turquoise to white when the lamp reaches 31 〫C (as seen in the video below). The design will be presented at Designersblock Milan 2012 which will take place as part of MOST during this year’s Salone del Mobile. (more…)

An Austrian architectural practice Atelier Thomas Pucher has completed first our of nine buildings from the Jõekaare Residential District project which, when completed in 2014, will include a total of nine buildings with 440 apartments intended for some 1000 inhabitants. Located near the Estonian Emajõgi river, the multi-storey building has been designed to offer it’s residents unobstructed views of a natural reserve situated on the opposite bank of the river.
