‘Adnet Rectangulaire’ mirror by Jacques Adnet

Following the last year’s release of the beautiful ‘Adnet Circulaire’, the Danish manufacturer Gubi has just launched the second mirror by the late French Modernist designer Jacques Adnet which will be available to purchase at the end of November. Originally conceived in collaboration with the French luxury fashion house Hermès in 1950s, the ‘Adnet Rectangulaire’ model also features a full-grain leather rim while the ‘Circulaire’s’ equestrian buckles have been replaced by square, oxidised brass studs, a frequent feature in Hermès’ accessory collections. Both of the models come in various sizes and with either tan or black leather detailing. (more…)

A young Japanese designer and recent Northumbria University graduate Tatsuya Akita has recently realised this collection of desktop accessories for the British design brand Plant & Moss. Stemming from Akita’s ongoing ‘Scars of Production’ project which explores the manufacturing process and how it ‘leaves the ‘scars’ [on products] as identities rather than obliterating any indication as to how they were made,’ the ‘Akita’ collection comprises three bold pieces: a desk lamp, tape dispenser and a pen stand. Detail of the five-course 'Dish of desire'

Known for his love of nature, the Dutch designer Frederik Roijé has realised this rather lavish birdfeeder aptly named ‘Dish of desire.’ In its form, the pendant design resembles that of a tiered tea tray synonymous with the indulgent and very British tradition of afternoon tea. Here however, scones, cakes, and cucumber sandwiches are replaced with grains, kernels and seeds as this elegant piece is intended for outdoor use as a serving plate for birds rather than tea-goers. Available in a one-, two-, three- or five-course versions, ‘Dish of desire’ was presented last week in Milan’s Zona Tortona, on Via Novi 5. (more…)

Sketch of the 'Swell' pen holder by Luca Nichetto

There seems to be no stopping the Venetian designer Luca Nichetto. At least judging by the recent edition of Milan’s Salone del Mobile where this acclaimed industrial designer who divides his time between his native Italy and Sweden, launched no less than 17 brand new products for 11 international labels such as Cassina, DePadova, Established&Sons and Foscarini to name just a few. Among those numerous tables, sofas, chairs or lamps, all of which bore Nichetto’s signature clean lines, bold colours and subtly witty and humorous character, there was also this gracefully simple and neat collection of concrete desk accessories.
