'Tours' bracelet by Claesson Koivisto Rune for DFTS Factory; photo by Fabian Björnstjerna

Sweden’s acclaimed design trio Claesson Koivisto Rune have recently collaborated with DFTS Factory and the groundbreaking result of this partnership has just been unveiled during this year’s Stockholm Design Week. Meticulously assembled from no less than 2208 individual plastic elements, ‘Tours’ is printed thanks to an innovative 3D manufacturing and selective laser sintering – ‘an additive manufacturing technique that uses a high power laser to fuse small particles of plastic, metal, ceramic or glass powders into a mass that has a desired 3-dimensional shape.’ Manufactured in Belgium, ‘Tours’ weights only 20 grammes and its production process takes four hours.

'Volume.MGX' by Dror for .MGX by Materialise

The namesake interdisciplinary practice of Dror Benshetrit has created this highly-sculptural limited edition light for 3D printing specialists, the Belgian brand .MGX by Materialise. Created as a single piece, the cubic lamp is composed from an intricate, polyamide net of hounders of interlocking squares ‘which when lit, provide both a bright, warm glow in its center, and a cooler, darker feeling around its edges.’ Watch the collapsible design come to life in the video below. Eric Testroete worked as a 3d, mainly character artist in the Vancouver game industry for 9 years. In the last three years he focused on world art.

Obviously it was his former job that inspired him for this three dimensional self portrait which he dedicated this year’s Halloween.

“The head was modeled in 3ds Max based off of photos I had Jen take. The final triangle count was 370

“The texture was done with Mudbox 2010 and Photoshop CS3. The projection features work great to get a texture down quickly. After that I used the new export screen to PSD feature to clean up the texture and remove shadows.”
