There seems to be no stopping the Venetian designer Luca Nichetto. At least judging by the recent edition of Milan’s Salone del Mobile where this acclaimed industrial designer who divides his time between his native Italy and Sweden, launched no less than 17 brand new products for 11 international labels such as Cassina, DePadova, Established&Sons and Foscarini to name just a few. Among those numerous tables, sofas, chairs or lamps, all of which bore Nichetto’s signature clean lines, bold colours and subtly witty and humorous character, there was also this gracefully simple and neat collection of concrete desk accessories.
Released by a young French brand Petite Friture, ‘Swell’ comprises two, differently-sized items which can be used in multiple ways: as a pen holder, a tray or, when flipped over, as a paperweight. Featuring smooth, curving lines, the series takes its name from ‘the jargon of surfers, who use it to describe the ideal conditions for catching a wave, particularly that elusive Perfect Wave,’ explains Nichetto.
