20 years ago pioneer gallerist Pascale Cottard-Olsson arrived in Sweden and brought the first modern design gallery to Stockholm. Originally from France, Cottard-Olsson has since discovered a lot of young talent in Sweden and through the influential position of the gallery, and gallerist, many designers have gotten their first serious attention.
A limited edition of 10 chairs by Alexander Lervik is the latest edition from Gallery Pascale. The seat and the seat back of Lervik’s Spike chair are fashioned from a number of rods, like a bed of nails, which collectively mimic the curve of a body.
The base of the chair is made of tubular steel, welded together with a three-milimetre steel baseplate. The upper section is made of turned ash components.
Lervik gained inspiration for his new chair during a trip to the Phillipines. “One day it poured with rain. Raining stair rods, as they say, and thats’s exactly how it was. The shafts of rain resembled slanted lines and in the rain I suddenly saw the outlines of Spike in front of me,” says Alexander.
Spike chair is available for 100.000 Swedish Krona, which equals approximately 10.000 €.
