In 1964 Danish Architect Jørn Utzon won an architectural competition for a new municipal theatre in Zurich, Switzerland. He invested more than half a decade of planning for a new urban concept in the area where an extension to the Kunsthaus museum is now planned.
Schauspielhaus was never built, but “even today the redesign of the public space around the Kunsthaus continues to be a political issue.” says Virtual Design Unit. “These 3D reconstructions and the visualisations by Virtual Design Unit – commissioned by the descendants of Utzon – are based on historical plans of the family and the city’s archive.”
“They show a building that would be an architectural icon for Zurich’s cityscape even today.”
