‘Panorama’, which has just opened at the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany, is Konstantin Grcic’s biggest solo show to date and one where the acclaimed industrial designer looks firmly to the future.
Grcic consciously pushes the boundaries of the traditional design exhibition by integrating his celebrated design classics like ‘Chair_One’ and ‘Mayday’ into futuristic scenarios. In three successive rooms, he stages future visions of ‘Life Space’, ‘Work Space’ and ‘Public Space’, breaking with classic exhibition formats, only to incorporate them in a fourth room as ‘exhibition in the exhibition’ again. Here, he takes a look back and presents his prototypes and drawings in the context of pieces from other designers to illuminate not only his sources of inspiration but also the evolutionary development of each new product.
Architonic attended the exhibition preview – with camera, of course. Here below, a link to some images on Facebook of what lies in store for visitors to the Vitra Design Museum from now until early September.
