Anyone who has ever worked in an open-plan office knows that privacy and seclusion can be scarce within this now ubiquitous work environment. With this in mind, young British designer Benjamin Hubert has created ‘Pod’, an oversized ergonomically-designed chair presented in Milan at the Ventura Lambrate during this year’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile.
Designed for breakout areas in corporate and private projects for the Dutch manufacturer De Vorm, the enwrapping form of the chair creates ‘a room within a room’ experience, with the design resembling the enclosed structure of a seedpod. The generous shell of the chair is made from moulded felt produced from recycled pet bottles which not only minimises the carbon footprint of the design but also makes ‘Pod’ an excellent alternative to the traditional upholstered furniture.
Watch Benjamin Hubert’s video capturing the entire creative process of ‘Pod’ – from the inspiration and the development of the original concept to the production of the sustainable PET felt cloth.
