Ernest Race designed the 'Antelope Rocker' chair in 1948
UK-based manufacturer Race Furniture launched a re-edition of several iconic designs of Ernest Race as part of the ‘Design Junction’ exhibition in Zona Tortona during this year’s Salone del Mobile.
The iconic 'Antelope' chair was commissioned for the Festival of Britain in 1951
Races’s mid-century modernist designs were presented in new pastel shades of pink, yellow, beau blue and pistachio green. The showcased collection included the famous steel rod ‘Antelope’ chair Race designed in 1951 for the first edition of Festival of Britain, the award-winning ‘BA2′ and ‘BA3′ dining chairs and ‘Heron’ armchair and stool.
Race's 'BA3' chair was the first mass-produced dining chair ever made with aluminium frame, originally made from material recycled from WW2 aircraft parts
'BA3A' chair by Ernest Race won the Gold Medal at the Milan Triennale in 1954.
'Heron' was designed in 1955 and it was the first larger size armchair and stool Race designed for domestic use.
