The young Danish designer Michael Schougaard Svane has recently created this delicate but sturdy table which has won him the 2011 Red Dot Design Award in the ‘Product Design’ category. The minimalist ‘Mensa6’ is composed from only four elements: a 6mm thick compact laminate table top and stainless steel legs, and can be easily assembled by one person.

About the design:

‘Mensa6 can be used both as dining table and as desk. The number “6” refers to the thickness of the slim table top, while “Mensa” is Latin for table. The form is inspired by nature. The aim was to produce a construction as strong as possible, with a minimum of material. Thus, one person can easily carry and quickly assemble or store the table. Mensa6 comes in three sizes and can accommodate up to ten people.’
