The natural beauty of birch wood is evident in Sanelma Hihnala’s ‘Lankku’ chaise longue, with natural bark present on both sides giving the impression of a chair “emerging from nature out of the wilderness and in transition to the contemporary environment.”
Presented at the 2013 Stockholm Furniture Fair, the relatively sharp and steep angles of the Lankku chair creates dramatic lines but also a very natural, relaxed and comfortable sitting position for lounging or reading.
“As a designer but also a consumer I’m a low tech- lover.” says Hihnala. “I find myself very much interested in wood and how to use it as simply as possible. The less the wood is processed the more you can see the natural individuality in each object. I like to give the material a chance to show its natural beauty.”
