Design brand Kartell is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Ferruccio Laviani’s iconic Bourgie lamp with a series of re-interpretations of the lamp by 14 of Kartell’s designers including Patricia Urquiola, Piero Lissoni, Front, Mario Bellini, Alberto Meda, Lenny Kravitz, Philippe Starck, Eugeni Quitllet, Christophe Pillet, Nendo, Tokujiin Yoshioka, Patrick Jouin, Ludovica+Roberto Palomba and Rodolfo Dordoni. 2014 is also Kartell’s 65th anniversary.
In the short time from 2004 to the present, the Bourgie lamp has become a veritable design icon. The image of a classically designed table lamp and its shade originally re-interpreted by Ferruccio Laviani in transparent polycarbonate – was a technological revolution in style and taste. “A transversal and eclectic lamp that shines in any context from the most contemporary to the most classic.” says Kartell.
To celebrate the Bourgie and pay tribute to its creator, Kartell invited each designer on its team to create a unique and new interpretation of the lamp. The result is a series of unique pieces first shown during the 2014 Maison&Objet exhibition in Paris. The Kartell goes Bourgie collection is a travelling exhibition that will be part of events taking place all over the world over the course of 2014 including Milan in April, on the occasion of Salone del Mobile and New York in May, during ICFF. At the end of 2014 Kartell will organise an on-line auction for the sale of the unique pieces, the proceeds of which will go to charity.
