Looking at the Dutch designer Jolan van der Wiel‘s installation at the imm talent show [D³] Contest, the spectator is captivated undecidedly, if the artpiece is the production tool or the product itself – only to decide that they both are….
The ‘Gravity Stool‘ owes its unique shape, which looks organic and almost psychedelic, to the combined powers of magnetic fields and gravity. The combination of the magnet machine with a plastic material, developed especially for this purpose, enables a small but efficient chain of production: the stool is formed by the positioning of opposing magnetic fields in the machine, which largely determine the final shape.
