Architects and designers Claesson Koivisto Rune have created a comfortable armchair with a unique open-armed silhouette that appears to be extending a hug. “Arflex has had the foresight and daring, over the years, to work with many great and gifted architects and designers resulting in an uncommon number of iconic designs. The Hug armchair is our response for a new, iconic design, tailor-made for [them].” says CKR.
“… we have looked for a particular silhouette. A friendly, recognisable gesture that encompasses all of these aspects but also, speaks directly to the heart – the hug.” adds CKR. “The friendly and welcoming gesture, seen most clearly in the ‘open-armed’ position of the armrests, is meant as a universal invitation: ‘Come, sit with me a while and I’ll put you at ease’.”
During the design process CKR saw the potential to broaden the concept beyond the initial brief, resulting in a high-back club chair version of Hug which has a more private repose than the armchair, a smaller side chair for dining or meeting, as well as dining and meeting tables and coffee tables.
The Hug collection will be shown at the 2013 Milan Furniture Fair.
