The promising Finnish designer and Lahti University of Applied Sciences student Jaakko Hyvärinen has presented this adjustable desk lamp at a Lahti Institute of Design exhibition during Helsinki’s Habitare 2011. Called ‘StixStix’, the birch design is characterised by a simple, yet unusual, structure and an exposed, brightly-coloured textile cord.
About the design:
‘The lamp stays up and in the desired height with the help of friction and tension. And even if the structure of the lamp lacks the complexity of common desk lamps, it is still very easy to adjust and set up. The idea for StixStix came from common desk lamps that are complicated objects with many joints, bolts and springs. I wanted to create a desk lamp that has the same functionality as the common desk lamp but with much less parts.’
