Berlin-based designers Formfjord use 32 thin steel rings in ‘Giro’, a lamp for Fabbian Illuminazione that encloses a large volume “but leaves it open and airy”.
“In large rooms, one of the core functions of pendant lamps is to define space.” says Formfjord. “Based on this statement our aim was to create a big lamp that encloses a large volume but leaves it open and airy.”
“The simplicity and lightness of thin steel rings and their graphic quality attracted us so much that they became the essence of the project. 32 rings are arranged to create a spherical volume, making Giro the precious and light sculptural object it is. The light source can be mounted in various positions within the lamp structure. Thus, Giro adapts to the special needs of the space it is applied in.”
Giro will be introduced by Fabbian Illuminazione at the Light&Building Fair in Frankfurt from March 30th to April 4th, 2014.
