While he is the man behind some of the most iconic landmarks of 21st-century architecture: the breathtaking Millau Viaduct in France, London’s The Gherkin, Beijing Airport, the pioneering zero-carbon, zero-waste Masterplan for Masdar City in Abu Dhabi or the just-unveiled £50bn Thames Hub project, Norman Foster, alike many of his confrères, is known to be a very private person. Recently however, we were all given a rare glimpse into the half-century-long career of this Pritzker Architecture Prize-winning architect, thanks to the beautifully shot and hugely inspiring feature-length documentary, How Much Does Your Building Weigh, Mr. Foster?.
Titled after a question posed by an American eccentric architect and Foster’s long-time collaborator, Buckminster Fuller, the 78-minute-long film has been written and narrated by the director of London Design Museum Deyan Sudjic and directed by Carlos Carcas and Norberto Lopez Amado.
