Roberto Lazzeroni, the Pisa-born designer has created this elegant and surprisingly light leather-and-wood desk for the Italian furniture manufacturer Poltrona Frau. Called ‘Fred’, the design encompasses a distinctive, curved desktop made from a single piece of saddle leather which has been dyed and finished with protective wax. Developed in a special craft process, the desk is accompanied by the ‘Ginger’ chair with both of the designs inspired by Poltrona Frau’s leather craftsmanship.
About the design:
‘Roberto Lazzeroni offers his own angle on desk design, inspired by Poltrona Frau’s leather craftsmanship. The medium density fibreboard wooden top, with scratch-resistant black paint, is covered with Saddle Leather Extra, which gives an impression of fluid continuity. A special process creates a single piece with no seam.’
‘ The frame is in wenge coloured solid ash wood with a triangular profile for greater lightness. The same material is also used for the desk drawer, mounted on metal soft-close runners. The front edge is bevelled at 45 degrees for easy opening. The upholstery in Saddle Leather Extra is available in dark brown and camel.’
