This curvilinear, award-winning airport located in Farnborough, Hampshire has been realised by the London-based practice 3DReid. The project encompasses an imposing, futuristic-looking 35-meters-high tower, an oscilloscopic 12,000-square-meters aircraft hangar and a voluptuous 4,000-square-meters operations and headquarters building.
Composed from an impressive 25,000 fully-recyclable aluminium shingles, this highly-sculptural structure has been awarded the prestigious RIBA award in 2006 (the year of completion of the entire project) and comprises a number of facilities such as conference rooms and offices, main atrium as well as customer lounges. The second set of hangars is currently being planned.
