Denmark’s Carl Hansen & Son has launched the Dream Chair, the culmination of a close, multi-year collaboration with Japanese architect Tadao Ando and the first chair in production from the star architect.

Designed as a tribute to renowned Danish furniture designer Hans J. Wegner, the chair’s harmonious, minimalist expression explores the possibility of materials and pushes the boundaries of what is structurally possible while remaining extremely strong and durable. “For the development of the Dream Chair, I followed an approach similar to the one I use in architecture.” says Tadao Ando. “I often use concrete as the only material in order to create unique rooms. In the same way, I only used one material – plywood – for the Dream Chair to define the chair’s space.”

“Available in oak or walnut, with or without upholstery, and with an adjustable neck support, the Dream Chair is a work of art in itself, but is also quite comfortable.” says Carl Hansen & Son. “The attention-grabbing lounge chair embodies Ando’s desire to encourage people to take more time to dream.”
