‘Diagonal’ is the name of the new extendable shelving system recently unveiled by the Berlin based designer Uli Budde. The smart piece recieves its stability through diagonally cut sheet metal shelves which replace the usual diagonal braces. It was presented within the [D3] Talents exhibition during this year’s imm cologne.
Here some words of the designer:
“The shelf consists of wooden frames and two different metal sheet shelves – a simple and a complex one with folded triangle surfaces in all directions. The construction and stability is prohibited by the shape of the folded surfaces of at least one or two complex shelves.
By combining a number of these two different shelves, a strong graphical and functional pattern can be composed.”
