The appearance of a cape neatly draped over a chair is the illusion of ‘Cape’, a chair by Japanese designer Nendo for Offecct. The product of carefully molded wood set on an extremely light structure, Cape is a complex chair with ultra-thin dimensions thanks in part to a collaboration between Offecct and Swedish Steel AB in the development of new steel materials.

Guest of Honour at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2013 where Cape is being shown, Cape’s designer Nendo describes his products as “functional, simple and friendly.” Says Offecct, “Every day we encounter small wow-moments, “!” moments – that are easily forgotten. With his design Nendo wishes to capture these interesting moments, collect them and reformulate them into something that is easy to understand.”

Cape is one of the first results to come out of the work of the Offecct Lab, a strategic initiative designed to concentrate Offecct’s efforts in the development of new solutions and new products.
