R-House in Tokyo blends privacy and transparency
New architect-designed homes in Tokyo are often impenetrable from the street. However, this house, in an exclusive enclave, takes the opposite approach. Designed by Riccardo Tossani Architecture, the house is almost entirely glazed, with fine aluminium blades creating just a veil of privacy. “We wanted to capitalise on the views over a nearby park, as well as maximising light,” says architect, Riccardo Tossani, who worked closely with his partner, Interior architect, Atsuko Itoda. Arup Engineers also formed part of the team. “Many new homes turn their back on neighbours,” says Tossani. “The density in Tokyo often favours this approach.” (Text by Stephen Crafti)

Created to meet the needs of architects, interior designers and discerning clients, September 2014’s M&O | projets | at the entrance to Hall 7, with its more than with over 3,200 m² of stands, is an absolute must
MAISON&OBJET Paris occupies a unique place among Europe’s major trade fairs in that it takes place twice a year, in January and now in September. However, a closer look at this late-summer fireworks display of thematically related exhibitions, events and activities indicates that ʻtrade fairʼ is not really an adequate term to describe it.
From 5 to 9 September an exhibition area measuring a quarter of a million square metres will be bustling with life at the Parc des Expositions de Paris-Nord Villepinte. In addition to the established trade fair focal points in Halls 1 to 6, Halls 7 and 8 will – under the ʻLuxury & Designʼ label – feature scènes d’intérieur, M&O | projets | and now! design à vivre.
The fact that the Paris Design Week is intelligently timed to coincide with the fair means that at the beginning of September the French capital will become a single superlative design experience offering countless opportunities to get to know the very latest trends and visions, and not only an exciting creative scene, but also its main protagonists.
