On the occasion of this year’s edition of Vienna Design Week which took place earlier in autumn (28.09 – 07.10.2012), Eindhoven-based design duo Daphna Laurens have been commissioned by the Austrian upholstered furniture specialist Wittmann Company to ‘exchange design ideas and produce a tangible outcome, be it a product or installation.’ Following this brief, the studio have realised this striking and decidedly tangible, two-piece seating collection which was presented at the Passionwege exhibition. ‘Pal’ stool by Hallgeir Homstvedt for One Nordic Furniture Company
Inspired by his childhood fascination with skateboards, the Oslo-based furniture designer Hallgeir Homstvedt has realised this easy to assemble, pared-down stool for the recently-launched Scandinavian design brand, One Nordic Furniture Company. Called ‘Pal’, the simple, flat-packable stool is made of lacquered ash and it is produced in Sweden. Watch the video about ‘Pal’ below… (more…)

‘Mino’ lamp by Ayala Serfaty for Aqua Creations
Known for her delicate light sculptures frequently exhibited in galleries across the globe, the Israeli designer Ayala Serfaty has created this series of beautifully sculptural, translucent lamps called ‘Mino.’ The lights feature a meticulously ruched silk drapery sculpted over a rectangular polycarbonate, vacuum-formed shell which is backlit with energy saving bulbs. Manufactured by Aqua Creations, a Tel Aviv-based design studio established by Serfaty and her husband in 1994, ‘Mino’ is available in three sizes with the largest one also doubling as a room divider. ‘Twist Stone’ table by Formstelle for Zeitraum
Munich-based design studio Formstelle have realised this collection of side and coffee tables for the German furniture brand Zeitraum. Developed in variety of woods such as oak, ash, American cherry, American walnut and European walnut, ‘Twist Stone’ series is characterised by simple, organically shaped, asymmetric tabletop which rests on delicate, inward-bent frame. OberAlp/SALEWA Group’s new HQ in Bolzano, Northern Italy
More often than not, office architecture can be, well, a little inward-looking. Shut out the outside world and focus staffers’ attention on their building’s interior spaces and you’ll keep them focused on their work. Right? Wrong. The OperAlp/SALEWA Group’s new headquarters in Bolzano, Italy, bring the outside in and, thanks to a collaboration with lighting manufacturer Zumtobel, never leave their workers in the dark. Constructed entirely out of second-hand materials, this wood-clad coffee shack has been realised by two Amsterdam-based practices Bureau SLA and Overtreders W. Also located in the Dutch capital, Noorderparkbar was developed in a design-as-you-go fashion considering the source of the structure’s components and the pavilion was completed earlier in spring 2012.
