‘Between centers’ series features characteristic marks synonymous with the process of woodturning

Inspired by the traditional woodturning technique, a young, Madrid-based designer Jorge de la Cruz has realised this three-piece collection called ‘Between centres’. Consisting of a stool, banquette and a dining/working table models, the understated, minimalist series features characteristic marks synonymous with the process of woodturning and the pieces, which are available in wither maple or dyed birch wood, were first presented earlier last month during Dutch Design Week 2012 in Eindhoven. ‘Pole’ chair by Paul Nederend for Odesi (NL)

Dutch designer Paul Nederend has collaborated with The Hague-based furniture brand Odesi on this brightly-coloured easy chair called ‘Pole’. Composed of an European oak frame produced employing traditional techniques, the chair is upholstered in the much-praised high-wearability Hallingdal fabric by Kvadrat. The chair is available in four colour versions: yellow, green, light-grey or dark-grey. (more…)

A young Japanese architect Kazuya Saito and his namesake practice have recently completed this single-storey house located in Sendai, Japan. Developed for an elderly couple who “requested living in privacy, but a sunny and breezy house while considering connection with the nearby house,” the dark, opaque and windowless exterior of the structure is offset by a neutrally-coloured, light-filled interior. Design Miami / Art Basel: ‘Tutti Frutti’ glass sculptures by Fabrica

At the upcoming edition of Design Miami/ Art Basel, the international design fair held in Miami, 5-9 December, Fabrica, Benetton’s Treviso-based prominent research centre will unveil ‘Tutti Frutti’, a new glass collection inspired by the vibrant and cosmopolitan atmosphere of Miami. (more…)

Geneva-based architectural practice Pierre-Alain Dupraz have recently realised this single family residence overlooking the Salève mountain. Close-up of Faye Toogood’s ’Spade Chair / BATCH’

Described by its designer as “a modern tool for sitting,” this extremely-reduced, three-legged chair was created by London-based Faye Toogood. Owing its minimalist form to Toogood’s clever juxtaposition of two mundane objects: a milking stool and a spade, the solid-ash chair is now available as part of ‘BATCH’ collection which also includes a stool, coffee table, side table and a dining table designs. ‘Kurk’ desk lamp by Craig Foster

Craig Foster, a young UK-based designer has recently realised this small, easy-to-assemble desk lamp called ‘Kurk’. Made of cork, the light was designed with sustainability with mind and it was awarded the second place at this year’s edition of the Lighting Association’s Student Lighting Design Awards. (more…)

‘Marionet’ table by Simon Busse for MOX

Stuttgart-based designer Simon Busse has developed this ingeniously constructed side table for the Swiss furniture brand MOX. Assembled from three solid oak legs and a powder-coated steel top, the aptly-named ‘Marionet’ is held together by a contrasting, bright-red elastic cord which also forms a small handle enabling the design to be lifted and shifted easily.
