Eight recycled shipping containers have been converted into a new pop-up branch of London’s popular Mexican eatery, Wahaca, by the London-based practice Softroom Architects. The brightly-coloured, riverfront structure was erected on Southbank, right in front of the contrastingly monolithic Queen Elizabeth Hall, to coincide with the Southbank Centre’s summer-long Festival of the World. Boasting a dining area spacious enough to accommodate 130 guests, the Wahaca Southbank Experiment will remain open until at least January 2014. (more…)

‘Spiro’ pendant light by Remedios Simón for Lzf

Alicante-based designer Remedios Simón has recently realised this intricately-detailed, handcrafted pendant lamp for the Spanish lighting specialists Lzf. Composed of multiple, delicate wood veneer spirals, the aptly named ‘Spiro‘ emanates a soft, diffused light. The design is available in a wide range of subtle as well as vivid colours. (more…)

This airy, one-storey detached residence for a family of five was realised by a Yokohama-based architectural practice Takeshi Hosaka Architects. Featuring a minimalist interior, floor-to-ceiling windows and a characteristic, zigzagging roof, the 102-square-meters ‘Outside In’ house was completed in 2011. (more…)
