The award-winning Rotterdam-based practice Atelier Kempe Thill have recently completed this glass-clad three-storey building which serves as a residential hotel for heroin addicts. Located ‘at a sensitive transition between the square and the park’ in Amsterdam’s Zuidoost borough, the building features an antiseptic, uniformly off-white interior which aims to ‘to offer a calm framework for everyday life’. ‘Baladi’ stainless steel cutlery by Galia Tammuz

Inspired by the local tradition and culture of food sharing, a young Israeli designer Galia Tammuz has created this understated tableware collection consisting of stainless steel cutlery, earthenware cups and wooden trays. Called ‘Baladi,’ the design of the series was based on, and achieved through, the relatively inexpensive and simple process of extrusion. As a result, each of the pieces features a distinctive, recurring pattern which has been moulded by the extrusion die. ‘Lima’ armchair by Claesson Koivisto Rune for Tacchini; photo by Andrea Ferrari

The acclaimed, Stockholm-based design trio Claesson Koivisto Rune have recently collaborated with the Italian furniture brand Tacchini on this collection of large, upholstered sofas and armchairs called ‘Lima‘. Similarly to the ‘Montevideo‘ model, also designed by Claesson Koivisto Rune in 2008, ‘Lima’ features a generously-sized seat based atop delicate, thin-legged frame. The collection was unveiled in April during Milan’s Salone del Mobile fair. (more…)
