In collaboration with Scheitlin&Syfrig Architekten the Zurich based Stefan Zwicky Architekten designed the conversion of a former riding arena in order to integrate it into the existing Credit Suisse Communications Center.

The building offers space for a ballroom, a restaurant, a foyer, offices, seminar rooms and the necessary facilities such as kitchen, toilets, and staff rooms.

'The Ocean is the Underlying Basis for Every Wave' by Derick Melander, 2008

'The Ocean is the Underlying Basis for Every Wave' by Derick Melander, 2008

The New York based artist Derick Melander is a jack-of-all-trades: trained as music programmer and filmmaker and beeing a passionate musician he taught nursery school before he moved into his atelier and concentrated on his visual art.

Melander’s works are architectural installations and sculptures, composed of carfully stacked and folded second-hand clothing.

“As clothing wears, fades, stains and stretches it becomes an intimate record of our physical presence. It traces the edge of the body, defining the boundary between the individual and the outside world.”

“The clothing used for these works is folded to exact dimensions and attention is paid to the ordering of the garments. For example, the sequence can relate to the way we layer the clothing we wear or the clothing can be sorted by color, gender or by the order that it was received. Individual components are often connected together with shirt sleeves, pant legs and belts forming bridge-like appendages”, Derick Melander explains.

This multi-family complex in San Candido / Italy was realised by the London based Plasma Studio Architects.

“Tetris House is derived from turning very pragmatic parameters into a spatially engaging concept: multiple programmatic demands (five self-contained units, parking space and other covered exterior areas) have initiated two volumes. L-shaped in plan and section they are spatially interwoven as to produce a range of dynamic in-between spaces.”

“The building volumes cantilever about five meters out to provide covered parking. The structural forces are legible in the development of the wall and ceiling planes.

The local larch is used with a white tint throughout the interior. The sloped elevation continues as a built-in sideboard that turns into a series of steps and a plinth beneath the internal stairs.”
